Brontosaurus

Brontosaurus, meaning "thunder lizard", is an extinct genus of gigantic quadruped sauropod dinosaurs. Although the type species, Brontosaurus excelsus (excelsus meaning "high"), had long been considered a species of the closely related Apatosaurus, researchers proposed in 2015 that Brontosaurus is a genus separate from Apatosaurus and that it contains 3 species: B. excelsus, B. yahnahpin (yahnahpin meaning "breast necklace"), and B. parvus (parvus meaning "small").

Brontosaurus had a long, thin neck and a small head adapted for a herbivorous lifestyle; a bulky, heavy torso; and a long, whip-like tail. The various species lived during the Late Jurassic epoch in the Morrison Formation of what is now North America, and were extinct by the end of the Jurassic. Adult Brontosauruses (also called Brontosaurs) are estimated to have weighed up to 15 tonnes (17 short tons) and measured up to 22 meters (72 feet) long.

As the archetypal sauropod, Brontosaurus is one of the best-known dinosaurs and has been featured in film, advertising, and postage stamps, as well as many other types of media.

Appearances[]

The only episode to show at least 1 Brontosaurus was "Dinosaurs". Even though the mystery animal --which was a monitor lizard-- was not a dinosaur --though Zoboo thought she was one-- Martin reveals that --even though she (the monitor lizard) is not a dinosaur-- she looks like a dinosaur. So Chris says that the monitor lizard looks like a dinosaur which walked on four legs (like Brontosaurus). A female Brontosaurus was the first dinosaur shown in that episode. She was also the only dinosaur to have similarities with 2 different animals (she has 4 legs like a monitor lizard, and a long neck like an emu).

Trivia[]

  • Like other dinosaurs in the series, this species is computer animated (due to being extinct), making all individuals of the same species (male and female) look exactly the same.
  • The MartinandChrisosaurus had the body of a Brontosaurus.
