Triceratops (meaning "three-horned face") is an extinct genus of herbivorous ceratopsid dinosaur that first appeared during the late Maastrichtian stage of the late Cretaceous period, about 68 million years ago (mya) in what is now North America. It is one of the last known non-avian dinosaur genera, and became extinct in the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event 66 million years ago.
Appearances[]
A male Triceratops appeared in "Dinosaurs". Though no other animals were compared to him, he was brought up when the Kratt Brothers talked about armored dinosaurs like Ankylosaurus (though Zoboomafooasaurus brought up Triceratops first). Martin said that he had 3 big horns on his face and a huge head shield called a frill for protection. Another group of Triceratops appeared with a Tyrannosaurus rex when the Kratts stated that the canyon they were at used to be home to millions of dinosaurs, and when the area shook a bit.
Several other Triceratops, both male and female, appeared in "Giants" and "Crocodilian".
Trivia[]
- Like other dinosaurs in the series, this species is computer animated (due to being extinct), making all individuals of the same species (male and female) look exactly the same.
- The other episodes showing this species reused the same footage from the first episode to show it.
- The Martinandchrisaurus had the frill of a Triceratops (though it looked more like the frill of a Chasmosaurus).
